Melissa Myers, LMHC (she/her)

Perhaps you are experiencing big feelings or an overwhelming numbness and are having a hard time making sense of why you feel the way you feel. Or, maybe the the internal shame spiral of “I should be over this by now” has taken over and you’re feeling alone and stuck. Maybe you already know what “it” is and you’re ready to face it. If this is you, let’s talk about it together.

It’s not a matter of “what is wrong with you” but rather what has happened to you.

As we journey through life, our life imprints upon us. What we see, hear, feel, smell, even taste is naturally encoded into our bodies memory through the nervous system. This can create automatic and habitual patterns in the body based of prior experiences. Especially if these experience were overwhelming or scary. Don’t worry, this is a normal even healthy reaction. And, I know can also be frustrating, limiting, and a huge barrier to fuller life. By observing what our body is telling us and what our minds believe to be true, we can begin to release defenses that no longer serve our growth or current reality.

My approach to therapy

I work individually with adolescents and adults, in person and virtually. With me, you will receive an empathetic and compassionate care from a holistic full body approach. Sometimes, talk therapy alone just isn't enough. Trauma, anxiety, and depression are also experienced and stored in the body. That low back pain, quick startle response, digestive issues, and/or trouble sleeping? No, it’s not “all in your head”.

I believe feeling seen and heard are essential to wellbeing and connection. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, meaning, you as the client are in control of the direction, speed, and focus of your treatment. I also draw from CBT, somatic therapy, narrative therapy, attachment theory, and yoga therapy. Together, we will explore your journey of how you came to be who you are and examine the various aspects of your life that shape your current experience.  When we observe our thoughts and felt sensations closely, we can create an awareness of our habitual ways of being in this world. Awareness creates choice, and I believe that choice belongs to you.

My dog, Margo (the brown dog below), may join us during in-person sessions from time to time.
