Trauma and PTSD

You have been through a lot. Maybe it was an assault, or a car accident. Maybe it was childhood physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. Maybe you don’t call what happened “trauma” but you don’t feel comfortable in the world or in your body.

You struggle to fall asleep and relax. Trusting other people may not come naturally, and you feel alone. You might experience a feeling of shame or blame yourself for what happened to you. You feel disconnected and at times like you are watching yourself from afar. You might have flashbacks and nightmares.

It was not your fault. Your symptoms are normal responses to an abnormal event. You can heal.

Treatment for trauma and PTSD involves:

  • telling your story, if you feel that you need to. You do not have to share your story to heal, but it can often be helpful.

  • reconnecting to your body through awareness, breath, and possibly movement (this can sometimes be the hardest part of the process, and we will honor that with time and gentleness).

  • cultivating a sense of safety, in yourself, as well as in others and the world.

  • connecting to your inherent worth and unbroken core self.

While the trauma is a part of you, it does not define you. You can be so much more than your past.
