Worker’s compensation mental health services

If you're looking into mental health services due to your worker’s compensation claim through Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (LNI), you're dealing with more than just physical pain from a workplace injury. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma following an accident at work. Maybe the stress of navigating workers' compensation is overwhelming. Or perhaps chronic pain from your injury is affecting your mental health and relationships.

Riverbank Therapy is an approved provider for Washington State Labor and Industries, and we understand the unique challenges that come with workplace injuries. We're here to walk alongside you as you heal — not just physically, but emotionally and mentally, too.

How It Works

  1. Talk to Your Doctor: Discuss your mental health concerns with your attending physician or primary LNI provider. They can provide a referral for a psychological evaluation and mental health services.

  2. Obtain a psychological evaluation and authorization for mental health therapy, or a referral for Behavioral Health Intervention (BHI). We do not complete evaluations at Riverbank Therapy, but are happy to provide referrals to psychologists for evaluation if you need them.

  3. Schedule Your First Session. Click below to complete our contact form to schedule your first LNI session with our provider, Anne Bornholdt, LMHC, CRC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral? Yes, LNI requires a referral from your attending physician for mental health services. If you're experiencing mental health symptoms related to your workplace injury, bring this up with your doctor at your next appointment.

Will this cost me anything? No. If your mental health condition is accepted as related to your workplace injury, LNI covers the full cost of approved mental health treatment. You won't receive any bills.

What if I work for a self-insured company? If your employer is self-insured, we unfortunately cannot provide services under your workers' compensation claim, but we'd be happy to discuss private pay options or therapy services using your private insurance.

Do you provide Behavioral Health Intervention (BHI) services? Yes, we do. These are brief, focused sessions designed to address psychosocial barriers that might be slowing your recovery and affecting your ability to return to work. BHI services don't require a mental health diagnosis and can be a great starting point for support.

Do you offer in-person sessions? No, our LNI services are fully virtual. We provide secure telehealth therapy throughout Washington State, making it easier for you to access care regardless of your location or mobility limitations. L&I requires anyone receiving remote services to be seen in person once every 6 months, and we'll arrange this for you if your services go beyond 6 months.

How long will treatment take? This varies based on your individual needs and situation. Some people benefit from short-term focused therapy, while others need longer-term support. We'll work with you and your LNI claim manager to ensure you get the care you need.

Will my information be confidential? We maintain your privacy and confidentiality within the requirements of LNI documentation. We're mindful about what information is necessary to share and only include what's required for your ongoing care and claim.

Do you provide therapy for those seeking support through the Crime Victim’s Compensation Program? Yes, we do. Please complete the contact form with your information, including how many sessions are authorized, and we can get you scheduled for your initial session.
